Marshall University’s Director of Counseling Center, Dr. Candace Layne, joins Glenn on the Field for episode eight of Field Goals for the FDA to discuss mental health issues and psychological stressors that often impact amateur athletes. Dr. Lane shares why athletes’ mental health often gets overlooked, the warning signs and when it’s appropriate for an athlete to seek help. She also dives into how mental health and well-being are linked to athletic performance and why it’s necessary for coaches to work with their campus counseling center to offer support for their players who may be struggling with mental health issues.
